Free-mo is set higher for better viewing by it's target audience
(adults). Personally, at 6'4" high, the 42" height of S-MOD is too
low for my enjoyment. I prefer 60". The 50" height of Free-mo is
reasonable.
Many HO track groups now expanding with Free-mo are using their old
shorter height. However, members are building full 50" height leg
sets too, so that they can take their modules to national Free-mo
setups.
Bottom line, whomever is pushing

You comment above about existing S-MOD height being correct,
indicates that your not so flexible...
I think what will happen, is that S-standard gauge modelers wanting
to seriously engage in prototype modeling and scenes will look to
Free-mo. They will not look to S-MOD, because they want ot separate
from High Rail or Flyer...They will want code 100 or smaller rail,
they will want to operate slowly and switch...They will want to view
their heigh quality models at eye level...They will want to use DCC
and possibly add signaling...They will look outside S-MOD, because S-
MOD's perception is on part with HO-Track...Right or Wrong...They
will develop their own standards, so that they do not have to carry
along the baggage of the years of S-MOD, High Rail, and Flyer...They
will move forward...They will not care that they are not care they
are not the same as the old guys...They will just move
forward...This is good...Good for the hobby...Good for
S...Personally, I hope to be one of those out in the pack...Moving
forward...I may be by myself...But I've been there before....It's a
good place to be! It's fun to be creating new...It's a right of
passage!
