One way to operate high current loads with a DCC decoder is to use 
the decoder to operate a low-current-draw relay.  The relay contacts 
then close the circuit to operate (in this case) the AM smoke unit.  
The smoke unit can be powered directly from the track and does not 
need to be directly connected to the decoder at all.  Thus, track 
power can make the smoke unit smoke and the only current load that 
the decoder need experience is to operate a small relay.  Hope this
