Gene, I once owned the SSL&S conversion kit for the AF Hudson. It was
very much like building a whole locomotive except for the engine and
tender shell. The drivers and all the other wheels were built around a
solid brass frame, so it was much more than just changing out the
drivers. I sold the kit when more brass that I liked became available.
That being said I do own a AF Hudson which does have scale
drivers/wheels. It was a kit available from Nimco (and perhaps under a
couple of other names i.e. Midgage, Stafford) for the K-5 engine.
These was a fairly quick drop-in situation for some engines. The
drivers are zamac and would be considered perhaps on the crude side, but
considering when they were made fit the engine okay. With an old
Pittman motor it runs like crazy!
