Hi Gang,
I was surprised to see this thread when I came to the group this
evening. Thank you all so very much for your support. No worries, we
are here to stay. Might not make any new S kits for a while though.
Yes, most railroad related kits have sold very few over the years.
Car related kits have sold even less, but the two together, car and
railroad modelers, have saved our interest in S. Every kit on our
list was at one time requested by customers and list members. We try
to do our best to fill those requests, but can't please all ya know.
Instead of competing against our competetor friends, we try to fill
in between the cracks. Try to go places where others have not.
Sometimes we fall into a pit and loose our shirt. One of the most
requested structures by both train and car modelers was a drive-in
restaurant. It took us over a year to get around to making one. We
didn't think they would sell well. We took a chance and made the
donut shop and drive-in mainly because I wanted one for a grafitti
diorama I have in the works. I figured, atleast I will have one even
if it does not sell, but we can't pay the bills like that. The
firehouse series was a real stretch as trains go, but several
firefighters requested it, purchased and saved the day. Wanting to
keep our railroad friends in the loop, we made the background style
of the kit for the railroaders, realizing the big firehouses would
be too big for most layouts. We did bring back our Rigsby Freight
kit and even added crates and an optional end wall as improvements.
Our manufacturing process has improved a bunch since the alleys and
Rigsby, so we wanted to discontinue them. Though they are nice kits,
we now can do even better, judging by our kits released over this
year. Throughout this year, we had problems with suppliers. Big
changes in resins and such. We had to stop making certain things
until we found good resin replacements. On the other foot, this next
year, we must make some new goodies for our long neglected HO scale
friends. We do have many great sketches in the works for both HO and
S. But with the slow sales in S, we will have to shelf them while we
recooperate. We did have plans for a 2-stall Brick enginehouse for
standard gauge. After chatting with several modelers and dealers, we
don't feel it would sell many. By many, I mean 30 or so kits. Maybe
you all can change my mind on that. Drop us a note off-list if you
would like to see it made. Hang in there and have a great holiday
season, Keith Blanchard
