Incidentally, there is an "027" structure line that's been around for fifty or more years and is a perennial best seller. It's Plasticville of course and Vic Roseman has shown what can be done with an otherwise crude coal dock. With a little work, a Plasticville switch tower can become a credible S Gauge model and it only costs 10 bucks! One overlooked item is Hallmark's 'Oceanside Depot'. Made of lithographed tin (ala Marx) with great detail and it scales out to S (give or take a few mm). It comes assembled in a box with the usual Hallmark certificates and can be used as is or modified with paint and extra details. There are a few on eBay at reasonable prices (if you're patient).
