Richard,  I believe the chrome on the ATSF units are actually electro 
plated probably making the painting of them difficult at best.   My 
understanding is that the builder will not make any more of those units 
making me think that they will be worth keeping or selling as orginals.  
Buy some undecorated units to paint and life will be easier and chances 
are that the ATSF will become rarer and you might make a buck or two 
when you sell them.
