Hello Maryann....The word 'best' might mean different things for
different people. For some, the rail code (rail height) should
match the original American Flyer track which, I think, is code
172. Check to be sure since I am not certain. For others, code 148
will look more realistic and might be considered better. And code
125 will look even more better, but will not be high enough for some
small percentage of AF flanges. In my opinion, when running
American Flyer toy trains it is unlikely that much concern will be
given to making the track look extremely realistic when the trains
themselves are so toylike. A few folks might do that, but most will
not.

Again, the word 'best' will mean different things to different
people. For some, the best turnout number will match the original
AF turnout geometry. For others, a larger turnout number will be
more realistic. But the larger turnout numbers require more space
for a layout and not everyone has a lot of space. And so exactly
which larger turnout number is 'best' sort of depends on how much
space is available for a train layout. The answer is different for
each one of us.

I am trying my 'best' to answer your questions, but the questions
are sort of like 'how high is up' which is a question without a
really specific answer. It all sort of depends on what size and
style of layout a person is attempting to construct.
Are you certain that track switches made from FASTTRACKS fixtures
for American Flyer trains is a product that will appeal to very many
potential customers? I tend to think this is not going to be a
popular idea with most of the AF enthusiasts. But then again, I
could be wrong. But I would suggest you investigate this idea very
carefully before spending any money on it.
Good luck....Ed Loizeaux
