Matt medium will NOT dissolve in water once cured. This could be a
positive or negative, depending on circumstances (it will not allow
the changes Ed describes).

Another issue is that the cheap matt medium sometimes has a white talc
filler which can leave a white residue on the track and ballast.
Scenery expert Dave Frary indicates this can be avoided by letting the
white settle out of the clear fluid, then decant the remaining liquid
into another container and thin that.
