Hi all,

Concrete varies in color with aggregate, sand and cement content and the places
where these materials were mined, concrete varies in color with age...ie:
"green" concrete is freshly placed/poured...then after min 30 days it begins to
gray and after years takes on a beigish hue. Add to this environment, weather,
and things like mold, soot, moss etc. ...concrete can vary from a greenish
fleghm color to a yellowish ocher to a blackish gray etc.

To replicate concrete that has been in place for a few years take a middle to
light grey add a drop or two of medium blue (a light touch here) and then add
yellow ocher to suit, to lighten add white, to darken or kill brightness of hue
add black. I have also used Floquill water based "Concrete" with some small
amounts of above to vary and age concrete. The residue and dirty water from
cleaning/washing brushes can also add a great weathering agent to "concrete"
paint out of the bottle. Don't forget there is also aggregate flecks that can
show through concrete: very fine light spatter of browns, grays and beiges
could be effective. Also if you are doing large surfaces, such as tunnels or
retaining walls or abutments, concrete varies in color subtely with different
"pours". To have a really aged, weather beaten look: some "dry" brushing and
"stippling" with diluted yellows, browns, greens, grays and even black. Don't
forget chips and cracks a liitle moss, rusty drips and runnoff with steel
structures above. A light touch is always better than a heavy hand...it's easy
to increase the colors/weathering desired, more difficult to remove over done
painting. Work in subtle layers...it is time intensive, as you have to wait for
layers to dry and "set"... but oh so worth it.

Hope this has helped, for those of you who are intersted in painting a
simulation of Concrete. Look around you and notice the concrete objects you see
and take note of the colors and subtle hues you see.

Best to all in this new year, Peter Loeb
