Good afternoon:
Before I started, I soldered three sections of the flex track
together to make a single piece 120 inches long.
Don Thomson recommended I glue the track down with white glue.
Edward Sauers recommended spiking the track down, in pre-drilled holes.
What I did was a combination of both. S Helper flex track has a web
between the ties in the middle. This makes a tie strip. I spiked down
the web every 16th tie web with code 220 spikes my father gave me.
These are huge and can double as S-scale tent stakes. (I did not
predrilled the holes.) I then went back and poured white glue between
about every 6th to 8th tie. I applied the glue much more liberally
where the bridge is to open. I hit every single tie and even covering
some of the spikes which I had not planned to do. If I later apply
ballast, it will be held down with diluted white glue then every tie
will be glued.
Yesterday I ran my first trains over it. It runs great. Soon I
will get out my brand-new razor saw. (Anyone know where the three I
already own are?) I will cut the track and Homabed at both ends of the
bridge. Then, for the first time in a couple of weeks, I will open the
bridge.
But before I can cut the track, I have to do some minimal wiring.
Right now the layout is fed by the rails, both east and west, from one
track connection near the power-pack. I need to run a bus from the
track on the left side of the bridge, over the doorway, and back to the
track on the right side of the bridge. I also need to power the bridge
track using flexible, stranded wire. Then I can cut the track. So I
figure I am still a couple of working sessions away from cutting the
track.
