All American Models engines run pretty well. There was a time that Ron used
a spring instead of a driveshaft between the motor and gear towers that did
not go over well with some buyers. I don’t think they are still using the
spring now though. In the case of the S12 (or other AM Diesels) you can get
a different worm gear that will cut the speed greatly for switching. If you
are buying it directly from then you may be able to ask for it to be
installed new for you instead of buying them as a separate part.
