For what its worth department. Several weeks ago there was some mail about the
accuracy to scale of these trucks. I purchased one of each and being close to
the national truck museum at Auburn, Ind. popped in for some research. From
the small sample I was able to measure I found generally trucks in the thirties
had a wheelbase of 113" using unscientific methods I found the 37 Mack Jr. and
the 38 ford to be right on. The Mack, the only one with an operating door, I
would place obliquely to the viewing area as the door is a loose fit and
objectionable to me. The 37 Study is the only one of the group with a
different wheel base it is about 116" whether this in accurate or not I will
not know until I visit the study meus. in South Bend Indiana which I plan to
do. It appears accurate in design, that was one different truck for its era.
During and just after the war moving into the 40's wheelbase increased to 115"
in fact there is a 38 chevy panel delivery with a 115" wheelbase but from 1947
to 1955 Chevrolet increased their pick up wheel base (and panel truck) to 125
1/2 inches. The Model of the 48 ford is in that transition period so I don't
know how accurate it is (probably neither does anyone else) but the 50 Ford and
50 GMC and 53 Ford models with that same 112-113" wheel base would be about 90%
of what they should be. Maybe that's ok for you if so great. I would use them
but place them together away from some more accuratly scaled models where they
could not be visually compared. All have white walls which could be easily
painted and I do not attest to the accuracy of the colors selected by the mfg.
So don't throw the baby out with the bath water, some of these models are
really right on.
