The most recent issue of Trains Magazine (June 2007) has a nice editors comment
(Page 4) about the Dakota Southern, a short line headquartered in Chamberlain,
SD. The President and General Manager is none other than S scale modeler Alex
Huff.
I knew Alex was involved with a short line railroad, wasn't aware he was the
owner! (I recall years ago talking with someone in overalls working under an
ex-CB&Q CZ car at St. Louis Union Station. I asked him if he was associated
with the car and he responded, "It's worse than that, I own it!") The Dakota
Southern's stable includes SD7's and 9's, an ALCO C420 and a UP Centennial
(parts). I remember Alex purchased SD's from us when we made then in S scale
brass. Hopefully they are now painted in the CRI&P inspired paint scheme of
the Dakota Southern.
If you have access to the magazine, take a look. Always great when you can add
a personal context to articles you read! Maybe Alex even lurks here?? But I
doubt the owner of a 12 inch to the foot gauge railroad would have the time!!!
Enjoy...
Jim K.
