Hi All --

I have more than 20 Shinohara #8's on my current SLE&P, and they have been
perfect (installed two years ago). I must confess a couple of things:
First, the railroad is in a relatively constant temperature room with
relatively low humidity (I'm in AZ high country) - Second, I remove all the
webbing between ties at both ends of the turnouts and slide the ties
together to give me room for rail joiners and strengthen the area ahead of
the points (at the diverging end I also remove a bit of the tie between the
two directions so that when the ties are slid inward, the now separated tie
pieces can move toward one another as the track centerlines converge).
This change in tie spacing is unnoticable in the few locations where the
turnouts are "above ground", as I used most of them in my storage yards
"below ground". Turnout controls are Caboose HO ground throws rodded from
the edge of the tablework to the turnout with piano wire. I have
experienced no problem with the spacing of the guard rails and I PUSH 30 car
trains of mixed heritage through them. In the past I have found that
Shinohara track will go narrow gauge if exposed to high heat (120f or more).
This occurred in a club environment where there was no heat control of the
room and temps regularly approached 150 in the summer if the building were
closed up.

Have fun!

Although the above makes it sound like the Shinohara turnouts are
more trouble than they are worth, this is not the case.
