Hi All, I tore right into my Sharks when I got them. Since they all have a TON of lights I started with the B&O set first. Unfortunately I did not have the drive thru DCC installation the Jim Kindraka did but I am fuddling my way through it. I figured I would take 1 for the tem and post my beating here.
First let me say that I HATE 1.5v bulbs. Hate them! They have 2 speeds, dim and burned out. The original constant lighting system and I parted company pretty early in the process. I think I mentioned the 1.5v bulbs burn out when improperly juiced. The constant lighting board did not work on DCC. It actually popped the breaker on the transformer not the DCC. I recently found out that LokSound has a Baldwin 2 chime 1 amp decoder. I now have 3 of them at Tony's it is item # 50448. A friend told me that the supplied speaker is a bit anemic so I bought the large oval speaker (item # 50448) It greatly improved the volume and quality. PLUS, the enclosure screws right on to the rear roof fan housing! It does sound differently then other diesel sound units so I can say that it must be a real Baldwin. I had a bit of brain fade and added 1 light more then I needed. I had the brightness all figured out with the right resistor. I have to go back and blow up some more bulbs until I get it right. I will post again when I get it figured out. I think I need something in the 80 ohm range. Please reply if you know where I can get a reasonably priced resistor variety kit that are 1 & 2 watt and are in increments of 20 ohms from about 40 to 300.
