Bill,

No need to burn things out and buy lots of useless resistors.  There are 
lots of Resistance Calculators on the web.  They are more for LED's but as 
long as you know the current draw (in milliamps) of the 1.5 volt lamps, you 
should be okay.

Try these sites.  I use them for electronics class work and DCC 
installations all the time.  I prefer light bulbs over the LED's.  The still 
give that lamp appearance.
