Hi John....Jim King's entry into S is just the kind of cottage industry
small time guy I am talking about. He is not another Atlas, Weaver, or
MTH -- and probably does not want to be a big corporation anyway. I
never said your efforts regarding Mr. King didn't amount to anything.
Those are your words -- not mine. What I am saying is that efforts
would be better spent cultivating the small garage shops rather than
major corporations. Bringing Jim King into the S fold is wonderful. No
doubt about it. And he will add some variety to the available kits in
the scale. Is it growth? Who knows....how many new S guys are there as
a direct result of one SR low side gondola? Cannot say that I know of
any just yet. But maybe next week. But it certainly is not explosive
growth as Dave was predicting. Another new manufacturer is good and
will help to replace some other guy who has retired from the scale.
Perhaps we can call Jim King a swap for SSLS who seems to have gone
defunct along with Russ Down's successor who is also now defunct. So it
sort of balances out. Win some, lose some. Life goes on. But not with
explosive growth for S scale. Just a slow trundling along gradual
improvement. Been that way for 35 years or more and it ain't gonna
change. Cheers...Ed L.
Say WHAT? You mean my efforts of dragging Jim King (and his INCREDIBLE
models) into S scale didn't amount to anything!? I'd call that
growth... wouldn't you?
Or, heaven forbid, are there more S scalers dieing off than there are
new folks coming into S?
Besides... what does it take to constitute growth?
