What an improvement in turnout selection we have now. IMO Shinohara set the
stage with their fine turnouts years ago for scale modelers. With all this
fuss, we in S have it better than O. In O the tinplate group have 3-rails
and huge flanges. At least in S we are all 2-rail and Tom's effective
modification allows both to run on the same layout. For my turnout needs, I
went the Fast Tracks route and build my own. Now that I have a few under
the belt, I'm ready to scratch build the ones that my jig won't fit. Even
though time is of short supply, I found assembling the turnout in the FT jig
was rather enjoyable and the turnouts preformed very nice. I have yet to
test my #5 with the AM 4-8-4 but I do know that my AM SD60 down to my SHS
SW-1 all run through my turnouts smoothly. I just wanted to mention the
Fast Track jig as another possibility for turnouts. Not associated with
Fast Tracks but a happy customer and user.
