Gents... One person has written me offline to ask how I could possibly know these just-announced semaphores were going to be of poor quality even before they are made. Talk about a twisted interpretation of my message.....Groan. I'd like to take this opportunity to clarify for the other zillion folks on this List that I was talking about the GATES -- not the semaphores.
Two people have written to me that their gates work fine. That is good and I am happy for them. Mine were junk and the retailer agreed. At first, I thought perhaps I simply had a one-of-a-kind defective unit. But the other GATES on the retailer's shelf were pretty much the same. Perhaps, in the past couple of years, the NJI GATES have been improved and upgraded. Might be worth checking to be sure I did not accidentally mislead anyone. In any event, I want to make it perfectly clear that I did not state the semaphores were deficient in any way. As a helpful suggestion, I did suggest that checking them carefully before buying them would be a prudent thing to do. Not trying to start a big debate here, but simply attempting to clarify something that one person found confusing. Read my words (again) below if you want to see the exact message. My goal here was to help folks understand that some NJI GATES were poorly designed and constructed. Hopefully, with Don and Mike's involvement, the new semaphores will be much improved. I hope they conduct a "first article inspection" on this potentially interesting product. Don and Mike certainly deserve our support for taking 100 units on pure speculation.
