Hi Guys, I was not aware that the Gray team had track pans until now. I do not know who had them first so I am not about to go there... The PRR also had tender overflow vents in the back corners of the deck. It was quite the water show the whole way when scooping on the fly. It is alleged that any unsuspecting bos riding under the first car back would get drenched and then freeze to death in the winter.
But as Rollie pointed out the PRR systematically steam heated their track pans instead of sending a team of ice pick wielding laborers scurrying out into the cold to chop the ice instead of the next Gray Team Limited becoming the USS Icebreaker! Ed, I am glad you are modeling this detail. Get me some photos and I will put them up on the Yahoo home page forthwith, as it will be a great but rarely modeled detail, and possibly a first in S Scale! Bravo! I DO have a genuine PRR drawing for the trap pans, showing the profile and that they were made in 20' long sections. Let me know Ed, if you want a copy of the drawing. At that scale who will know that those track pans on your NYC rood are modeled after the Mighty PRR? It will be our little secret!
