Whoaaa... Bill, pull up the hourses and sit a bit.....The yard furrows can
be filled/leveled with a water clean-up, acrylic caulk used to caulk windows
doors etc. this stuff comes in grey, black, beige, brown, white and even
silver...depending on brand. It is a great material to use around the layout
for a ground cover dabbed, blended, and troweld on. in thin layers it dries
within about 20-30 minutes (putting down ties/ballest) , in thick 3/8-1/2"
beads can take days-weeks to set up all the way. the nice thing is it can be
blended with acrylic paints for just about any color you want, can add a
bitt of water to thin, and can be used to lay ties, secure landscaping,
rocks, ballest, plant trees, telephone poles, etc. I have found that it's
relativley low fumes and easy water clean up (while still moist) is a big
plus. Can put on some surgical gloves and use fingers to apply, or spatulas,
or a fork for furrowed fields etc. Can be used as a filler for sides of
straight cuts of Homosote to create the proper slope to roadbed, filler
round culverts, accesories, etc. and to fill in inbetween depressions to
level stuff.

Keep in mind that this caulk , by its nature retains flexibility when dried,
but is firm and and can be pried away, cut or scraped. When still fresh it
can be washed away, thinned, mixed with other compatible materials and
colors. It also has great sound deadning and sticking qualities. I use a
caulking gun and squeeze out what ever I need, a misting bottle with a bit
of vinegar and tiny bit of liquid dish soap added (protect against
mildew/wetting agent) to help with staying moist while working the caulk-use
mist sparingly.

The brand that I found best in terms of quality/price/color selection is
DAP acrylic latex caulk, the color I have in front of me is "cedar tan"
price ranges from about a Dollar to a couple of bucks, depending on
where/when you buy. To close top of tube I use a large electrical wire nut
or a large nail. If it you store an opened tube, seal with duct tape. To
keep caulk from extruding out of tube relieve pressure of caulking gun. I
think that's about it. Have fun!

Hope this will be helpfull to you and others, Dr. K. Loeb (Peter)
