Hi Bill;

That is CNJ's Bronx freight terminal. It is very
doubtful it was ever a locomotive round house, because
the only tracks are those visible in the photo! All
cars and the locomotive (four wheel steam switcher, 8
wheel boxcab diesel or four wheel diesel "critter"
depending on the era) arrived and departed via the car
float bridges visible at the right rear over the
freight house. There was absolutely NO land-rail
connections! Several other NY area railroads (Erie and
LV among them) had similar "island" terminals serviced
by car float only. It allowed less freight handling to
float the whole cars over and park them at the house
or team tracks for unloading than to unload them on
the Jersey side and transfer the freight by barge or
truck.
