That must be one of the Marx 3/16 scale O gauge cars.
I didn't know much about these until I did a bit of
reading to price a pair my Dad had picked up. Most of
the series are stamped tin with lithographed details
and not really of much use to a scaler, but the quad
hopper is much better, I think diecast? I've since
seen a couple at trains shows and am really surprised
that more use was not made in the older days of S - at
least I have not run across anything in the older
Heralds or S Gaugians about using this car even though
S had no quad hopper model until the relatively recent
AM car. All the Marx quad hoppers I've seen have been
lettered LNE (oddly, since I don't think LNE had any
quads, and the B&O which did is certainly better
known!) I do think the K-Line twin hopper is a
different, O scale animal.
