Geeze! Let's stop reinforcing and dwelling on this technicality all ready.
"Zero scale" is an obsolete designation. For who knows how long, it's been
COMMONLY referred to as "O" scale. As I recall, the THREE magazines available
there are called "O Scale" "O Scale News" and "O Gauge Railroading." They
all use the alpha character "O" and not the numeric "0." The same goes for HO.
HO is the commonly accepted term, not "half zero." Ask Carstens, ask
Kalmbach, ask ANY manufacturer. It's time to get with the 21st century.

How would we like it if we were continually referred to as "CD" scale? The
NACDG? The CDian? I don't think so.....

Let's show some respect, for Pete's sake. I can't think of anyone other than
us oh-so-"S"uperior S scalers that STILL refer to these two scales by their
arcane numeric designations. And that's part of the problem. We tend look
down our noses at the other scales, we don't pay attention to what's going on
in the other scales, then we wonder why so darn few people make the jump to S.

As I said a few posts ago, S, be it scale or Flyer, is a curiosity. Sure,
folks in other scales are polite and maybe even admiring of what and when they
see some S scale. But the fact is when they amble out to their local hobby
shop, they'll see tons of HO and more 3-Rail O eagerly available to be snagged
with the swipe of a credit card.

We can't blame the shop owners, either. They have a hard enough time
competing against mail order, direct Internet sales and eBay as it is. They're
not going to devote valuable shelf space to S scale on the odd chance that
maybe one or two people a year are going to ask about S.
