Cool off, Rich, I was just providing historical background, not flaming O
Scale, or HO. Sheesh!

S Scale, properly, is "Half-One". #1 Scale, you may recall, was another of the
old tinplate scales that used 1.75-inch gauge and a proportion of 32:1. It
still does, although for some it is called I Scale rather than 1. G uses #1
Gauge but seems not to have settled on any particular scale. S Scale was
originally H1 overseas before even "CD Scale". In some quarters, it's STILL
referred to as "H1."

I'm no tinplate expert, but my recollection is that #0 was the smallest of the
old tinplate gauges, which included #1, #2 and #2-1/2. The scalers started
with that background and moved forward to, as you say, the 21st Century.

OK?

By the way, Rich, I still have some of my O Scale (from which I came to S) and
plan to get some more, albeit for display. By the way, my local retailer DOES
carry a small amount of S Scale on his shelves, even though he has only a few
regular customers for it.

regards ... John Picur

Geeze! Let's stop reinforcing and dwelling on this technicality all ready.
"Zero scale" is an obsolete designation.
Let's show some respect, for Pete's sake.
