I have a feeling it's usually done inadvertently. It took me a long time to
figure out that you have to "reply to all" to get it to the list. I still
forget sometimes. This is the only group I've encountered that's set up this
way.

Both valid for their respective list. With all the other issues
that seem to set off people on these lists cross posting is the
least to worry about IMO. I do wish people would answer to the list
as opposed the individual. Often I have the same question and when
I do ask it I get rude "check the archives" answers, only to find
that most of the answers were sent to the individual as opposed to
the list.
