Ah yes, Army politics....I remember having a summer job with the Army
while in college. Actually, two different jobs in two different
years. First was being the lifeguard at the Officer's Club. A neat
job where I got to meet lotsa cute young gals who were children of
officers. I recall one day, when nobody was actually in the pool,
being invited to play cards with a bunch of college-aged young
adults. I accepted the invitation, climbed down off my high perch,
sat at the table and played cards for a few hours. Later in the day,
someone wanted to go swimming and so I got back up on my perch to be
ready -- just in case. Well, wouldn't you know it -- someone saw me
playing cards and complained to my boss (a Captain) about me being
negligent. I explained my side of the story and suggested he speak
with the Colonel's daughter and/or the General's daughter since they
were both there the entire time. Just the mere suggestion of that
really irritated the Captain and I got my rear end royally chewed
out. I was told to stay on my perch for the rest of the summer.
After I explained what had happened to the other "kids", I got
invited over to their homes for dinner and/or lunch where it was OK
to not be on my perch. I might add that being an Army brat seemed
(to me) to be a very interesting life. So many more experiences than
just living in a suburb somewhere and going to school down the
street.

Train content: I have an Army train on my layout complete with a
hospital car.

Cheers...Ed L.
