Reminds me of a WW1 story of shipping some secret new equipment in
crates to hide it from spies, so that it would be a surprise on the
battlefields...  In addition to hiding it in crates, the crates were
labeled with misleading identification of the contents.... they were
labled "tanks"!  Guess what was in 'em!  

OTOH, how the equipment was chocked in place on the flat cars may be
of more interest to model railroaders.  I have a book of railroad
standards for this if you want specific information for any type of
load.
