The other interesting feature of the NYC lightning stripes was the 
difference in width between the E7 and E8 stripes.  Not a great deal, 
but enought to show an offset when coupled together back to back as in 
an E8a-E7b-E8a consist.  I suppose it was their equivalent of a 30' 
paint job or the general feeling it all looked pretty good at 70 mph!! 
Every RR had to deal with the point esthetics met practical...
