My experience on a portable model railroad....Suitcase connectors work....
Care should be used.....I used 12 and 16 (or 18) gauge stranded together...
I've also used 16 and 20 together...I think 12 and 22 gauge could be a
problem.
Most Suitcase connectors are for a range of connections (ie...12-18 gauge or
16-20 gauge...) I would not put smaller wire in them then recommended. You
might be able to force larger.
When you installer, use care....Validate the connection both electrically
and
physically....Yes, I give them a tug or two to ensure they are tight....If
the
tab bends over when you squeeze, you may have bent it...So remove the
connector (consider throwing away) and reconnect....
Not having flux fumes, Not stripping wires, not handling a hot iron under
a layout...Are all pluses for the connectors (available at home depot or
possibly radio shack). That said soldering does work reliably..
