Dick,

I had the same opinion of the cover picture when I saw. To me the AF track
wrecked the whole scene; since in my opinion, track is also a model. I even
thought of posting something on it.

Of course I'm a narrow gauge modeler, and in the narrow gauge community, the
error in track height many times is on the small side.

Subject: {S-Scale List} It made me want to cry...

All --

As the NASG's Librarian, I get all the current S-oriented publications, paid
for by NASG. A couple of days ago I received the Library's copy of the
Jan/Feb 2008 S Gaugian. The cover photo made me want to cry.

I initially thought the better of commenting because of my NASG Librarian
position. But I have decided what the heck, go for it. The photo is of a
small engine terminal area that's featured within the magazine. The
structures, scenery, and detailing are much better that I have seen on most
layouts. Even the rails are painted -- something I do on my own layout.
But there's a monstrous AF switch right smack in the center of the photo.
The rest of the track is AF sectional with extra two-foot-wide wood ties
added.

I know this is only a hobby, and I would be the last person to tell someone
he/she's not doing it right. Still, I wonder about someone who has such a
good eye for detail and completeness and yet cannot see the incongruity of
the total scene. Surely the notion of using something like SHS sectional
track must have occurred to the builder... Or maybe not...

I suspect many of you subscribe to the S Gaugian. I'd be curious to know
your thoughts. Am I way off base here?
