Hi all,
To me, the AF switch stood out like a "Bare-naked Lady in a showroom window" on
the front cover of this issue of the S Gaugian.
Dick Arsenault is obviously a AF buff, but he also uses a lot of American
Models track and switches, as do many, many other AF operators and collectors .
Many, many years ago, I was one of those collectors too.
Actually, most AF and High railers wouldn't have given a second thought to that
switch, but we S scaler's do. Tsk! tsk!
It made Dick almost cry, it made me laugh and say, Hey, Mary look at this cover
photo!"
Anyway, the point of the image was to show what R. Arsenault did to make his AF
layout look presentable. Back in my AF- High Rail days, I did the same thing,
didn't you? AF collectors would shriek, "Look at his repaints!" when viewing my
model pike.
Oh well, time marches on; American Models, S Helper Service and Des Plains
Hobbies and many others cater to the AF - High Rail group as they spend more
money on their trains than we do. (They ain't dumb!) It really dosen't bother
me that much, not after being in S gauge for 46 years.
I would also imagine that Dick Arsenault is not a young man and that this issue
was Don's annual AF-High Rail edition.
For notice; I have a "Meet an S Gauger" column coming out on an old time AF
collector who has almost every thing ever made in AF S Gauge and I also have a
pretty neat S Scale article coming out in the S Gaugian on the beautiful
full-blown S scale model railroad of Bert Mahr's, Conrail Eastern.
Merry Christmas everyone,
Billy Fraley
