Maryann, Welcome. I hope you enjoy S scale as much as I have. I'm assuming you are switching from HO. The turnout numbers are pretty much the same. True #6 turnouts will handle any S locomotive, as long as there is about 6 to 8 inches of straight approach. #7 or #8 look better, #5 can work if you don't have big steam. Some of the commercial turnouts in S have #6 frogs, but much shorter geometry in the points, and can be a problem for large steam.
Curves are a funny thing. A 24 inch curve is on the generous side of moderate for HO. If you scale that up to S, it is 33 inches, which would be considered fairly sharp for S. I can't come up with the math for this, but somehow 24 inches in HO seems like it matches 40 inches in S. -Michael Eldridge -San Jose, CA --- In [email protected], "MaryAnn Obuch" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I would like to know what turnout # is best to use with S-Gauge and what size of curves is the best to use when planing a new layout? > > Yours Truly, Maryann Obuch > > Find my HO train items at: > http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZtrain_lady_73662 Yahoo!
