And this all came out of my research on Coal Gas!

Now I am finding out that the coke from coke ovens needs to be dropped into 
quenching 
cars which are pushed by little locomotives into quenching towers to cool the 
hot coke.

Then I can worry about transporting the cool coke somewhere off the layout!

Unless someone will be building a steel mill!
