Hi Bill and All --

Interesting thinking. I would suspect that if anyone were to know about
the number of serious scale S modelers, it would be Dan and Jim of River
Raisin. I would expect that almost every one of the serious standard gauge
folk have at least one RRM model. Ron Sebastian of Des Plaines Hobbies
probably also has a pretty good feel for the number of serious standard
guage modelers, as he is a major and varied source of scale S products.
Of course, Bill Peter and P-B-L have an almost exclusive lock on Sn3, so
they should have a really good feel for the numbers there...

>From a personal viewpoint, backed by 23 years in the hobby business and as a
former purveyer of scale S, I would say that scale S is growing, but
relatively slowly. If you go back through issues of the commercial model
rail press, you will find more and more ads and products being offered in S
as you get closer to the present.

FYI, I think the best magazine for covering S of all kinds at the present
time is "Model Railroad News", and I believe Roy Hoffman has a regular page
or more of info in each issue. MRN is also looking for more S contributors
(as mentioned in the Feb 2008 issue).

Have fun!
