1. It is hosted by InMotion Hosting: http://www.inmotionhosting.com/ I've
only been with them for a month or so, but they came highly recommended --
and I highly recommend them myself.

My account has 4.5 Terabytes of space, and 45 Terabytes of monthly transfer.
(A Terabyte is a thousand Gigabytes.)

The Wiki will share that account with a number of other domains, but space
is not going to be a problem for a VERY long time.

The database is mySQL, which is very efficient, run on a Unix server with
php, so yes, the system will keep going as is for many thousands of pages.

No, I'm not worried about photo sizes. Multi-gigabyte videos might be an
issue, but I'll announce to the users when it is. For now, if you want to
share it and it is about model trains, post it.

If the traffic gets heavy enough that it starts to bog down the server, I
have the option of moving to a dedicated server. That costs a lot of money,
but if the site is that busy, it should be producing the money by then,
through advertising and sponsorships.

2. As I understand it, there are DCC modules which need to be programmed,
and Modular Benchwork modules as well. If so, I expect there would be
different pages under those two sections relating to the appropriate types
of modules. Since I've never done anything with DCC and never built modular
benchwork, I may be completely wrong about this, so those who have a better
understanding can move the pages to the right place.

Please note that new pages must have unique names, or they will cross-link
to an existing page, which may not be appropriate. In an active Wiki,
cross-linking is used very effectively, but not nearly as much as the
ordinary parent-child linking of creating a new page under the page on which
one is working. One of those pages is already called Modules, under DCC, so
the benchworking module page might be called Benchwork Modules, or something
like that.

3. The Files Galleries are the perfect place for those PDF files. If you
don't mind sharing them, you might even want to post the InDesign files as
well. I just created a file gallery and uploaded several types of files as
a test, and all seems to be working correctly.

Thanks for the support.

Subject: {S-Scale List} wiki question 997 & 998

I am happy to see such enthusiasm for this new place on the internet.

I have two questions of which one is VERY important before we go on much
further.

1. Who or where is the host for this wiki?

I find it hard to believe that their is limitless space for everything we
might post for S scale
let alone EVERY other scale.

I would ask that this issue be investigated very carefully.

Can you imagine what a mess we will have in three years if there is a
storage limit that is
reached?

Who will decide what will be deleted?

Is there a need to set the image size of all photos?

I have not tried to upload/add anything yet so maybe this issue has been
dealt with?

If so.. "my bad"!

2. I agree that the modules topic should not reside just in the DCC section.

It is a way of building a layout isn't it?

A module section could be found at the top level that would be open to every
scale, which
might be nice, but it should also exist on the S index too.

I guess it could be in both places?

I am not sure what is best.

back to work....

I am busy redrawing all the S-MOD standards diagrams so that we have
diagrams that are
no longer dot-matrix created as I used in 1987. I am using Adobe Illustrator
to create
.eps files which I insert into Adobe Indesign to create the final product
which is then saved
in Indesign format but also in PDF form for distribution.
