Peter,

Welcome to S scale. I made the plunge to S scale in 1969 from HO and
have never regretted it. You will meet a lot of really nice folks and
great modelers along the way.

I'm also the member with the furtherest drive to a Houston S Gauger's
meeting; about 275 miles. Until 10 years ago I lived only 140 miles
away, was reasonably active, and help build the original module set
with the assistance of my son, Danny, who is also an avid S scaler.
(He only lives about a 185 miles away now.)

There is a great bunch of guys and great modelers in the Houston
group. The grandaddy of the Houston S scalers is Jack Troxell, who has
handlaid all his track and scratchbuilt several steam locomotives that
run like the proverbial Swiss watch. He was a design engineer by trade
and has a complete machine shop helping many of us through our
modeling railroading pains and problems.

I made my first trip to meet the group in 1970. I would advise a
meeting with the group as soon as you can. You won't regret it.
