17/64 = 1 ft - can you imagine the hassle in converting drawings to this scale 
- before calculators!

Even worse than 17/64 is the 3.5 mm = 1 ft. used by HO -  double conversion.

It makes me appreciate even more the wisdom of 12/64 = 1 ft used by S scalers. 

Without question S scale is the most rational scale with the smartest and 
best-looking participants.
