27 July 2008 - NASG 2008 National Convention Update
To: All interested parties
From: NASG 2008 National Convention Committee
We're just nine days away from the opening of the 2008 NASG National
Convention in Lowell, MA. Finishing touches are being put on the
convention and the Bristol S Gauge Railroaders are getting ready to
welcome attendees to Lowell. The Convention Committee is meeting at
the hotel tomorrow morning to ensure final arrangements at the hotel
are in order.
A few highlights:
- Registration is approaching 400! If you have not registered yet,
you can register on site! Convention check-in if you have already
pre-registered and on-site registration will be conveniently located
adjacent to the hotel registration desk right as you walk into the
hotel. And we'll have very convenient hours -- we'll even be open
early in the mornings -- one hour before the tours leave on Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Friday -- in case you arrive really late the night before.
- ALL Tours are running -- we anticipate no cancellations! There are
seats still available on the Friday Special Excursion to the Lakes
Region of NH over the Hobo & Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroads and
including a private tour of the Flying Yankee, currently undergoing
restoration to operation. Many of our other tours are either full or
close to it -- if there is a tour you're interested in and are not
yet registered for it, be sure to ask at the Registration Desk when
you check in if tickets are available. Rumor is there may be a few
tickets on some tours still available on site...
- Are you on the Mt. Washington Cog Railway tour? If so bring a
jacket! It can be cold up on the top of Mt. Washington even in the summer...
- Both Dealer Halls are full / sold out -- see the complete list on
our web site
- Please join us in celebrating the Bristol S Gauge Railroaders' 60th
Anniversary at a reception on Wednesday evening from 8:30pm-10:30pm
in the main lobby area. All full convention registrants including
spouses and children are invited! And while you're at the reception
don't forget to stop by the Moxie tasting station!
- AUCTIONS! AUCTIONS! -- Don't forget to bring your items for the
auctions -- the Live Auction will be right after the banquet with the
world renown Jamie Bothwell as our Auctioneer! And the 2008 NASG
Convention will also feature a Silent Auction open during Dealer Hall
hours -- so don't forget those items (?treasures) that you'd like to
allow someone to carry home...
- Model Contest -- Just a reminder to bring your entries for the
Model Contest and the Model Photo Contest -- full details and entry
forms are on our web site, and entry forms will also be available at
the convention.
- Door Prizes and a raffle featuring several nice products (including
some brass items donated by River Raisin Models and Olde Southwind
Models!) -- need we say more?
- Are you a Lenz DCC system user? If so have we (actually they) got a
special deal for you! Bring your Lenz LH100s, LH90, and LZV100s to
Convention with you and get them upgraded to their new V3.6 software
FREE OF CHARGE! Drop them off at the Lenz table in the Dealer hall
Thursday or Friday and pick them up the next day ready to go. Take
them back home with you with all the new features they have packed
into V3.6 ...
- Local Tips: see our special convention planning newsletter for
numerous restaurant suggestions that you may wish to sample while in
town, or check-in on site with a Merrimack Valley Convention &
Visitor's Bureau Ambassador who will be staffing a table right near
Convention Registration to answer your questions about the local
area, help with restaurant selections, etc. And our convention web
site has much more information on both local attractions as well as
regional attractions you might enjoy enroute if you are driving to convention.
- The 2008 Lowell Art Walk is underway -- ask at the Merrimack
Convention & Visitor's Bureau table near Convention registration.
- Don't miss The Lowell Quilt Festival, the annual city-wide
spectacular celebration of quilts, offers a visual feast of color and
creativity to visitors of Lowell, Massachusetts! From small to large,
traditional to contemporary, hand-work to machine-work, simple to
spectacular, the Lowell Quilt Festival quilts are a must-see for all
who enjoy and appreciate the work of highly talented and expert artisans.
This year's festival will be held August 7-10, 2008 and will feature:
* The juried Images quilt show, featuring over 300 quilts, with
cash prizes in several categories.
