Hey John;
I believe as a group, S scalers have been and continue to be very tight on
what and how we allocate our expenses. And with the way the economy has really
begun to 'clamp down' on all of us, many have felt that brass has gotten out of
reach financially. Whether we choose to have our models built up in brass or
plastic, R-T-R or kit form we expect performance and accuracy. And for the cost
of ANY locomotive, it's hard to justify anything less than near perfect!
Anyway, brass would be nice for the Baldwin Centipedes, but I would be just as
happy if the chassis (mechanism) would be comparable and the superstructure is
accurate and flawless. Details could be applied by anyone of us with minimal
skills. Anything that really gripes me is having to rework a body casting
because the 'homework' wasn't done thoroughly prior to the tooling. We all have
to credit the hard work & dedication to the firms such as SHS and importers
such as RRM put in to strive for the accuracy we all demand.
You know my support has always been there for the Centipedes and will offer my
assistance in the project if you need. Sure, not everyone admires the P company
(although I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want a beautiful brunswick,
green five striped Centipede gracefully rounding their trackage on their
railroad.) but sometimes it seems that (especially in S scale) opportunities
don't come up very often to have a somewhat obscure prototype promoted, fail
because of lack of support (for whatever reasons) and then never have the
chance to surface again because of rising costs. Case in point-with the Pennsy
T1 4-4-4-4 Duplex that Jettie of Southwind Models was trying to promote a
decade ago. I'm not sure how close or far away the figures were from going
ahead with the project, but to do that model now would be only that much
further out of reach for even the guys that were 'on-the-fence' as far as being
able to afford it! Just something to consider guys- As prices continue to
skyrocket, if there's even an outside chance to have a somewhat obscure model
produced for your particular road we better band together and show some real
support or that maybe the ONLY chance you'll get to see it on anyone's
railroad! Let's support the quality, be it brass or plastic!

I don't get it, S scalers... y'all seem to change your mind more often than you
do your clothes....About a year ago I brought up the possibility of having some
Baldwin Centipedes done in S scale (brass) by Overland (because I wasn't as
familiar with River Raisin then as I am now). All I got in reply was negative
comments since it was to be brass... so negative in fact that I shelved the
whole idea and never even finished the web page about it :

everyone is PRO brass in their replies to my comment about the poor (or should
I say POORER THAN PLASTIC) operation characteristics of brass models.So...
could everyone please make up MY mind for me? Am I to think that the S
