Roy, Over in the LargeScale world, the concept of OFF-GRID garden railway operations has a few followers already. Not Wind powered, but solar powered. Check these links out

BTW, I really like the idea of EtOH powered live steam - I don't envision any problem disposing of the extra fuel!!! Keep in touch! The big fans actually produce more electricity than the residents need. The town is completely off of the regional utility grid. What a concept: wind powered electric trains-well, sort of :) Roy Inman From: rhettgraves <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [email protected] Date: Sun, 10 Aug 2008 02:32:51 +0000 To: [email protected] Subject: {S-Scale List} Re: Model RR E-zine --- In [email protected] <mailto:S-Scale%40yahoogroups.com> , "Robert Nicholson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Then we'll be in the same predicament as the French - so much hot > water from nuclear power plants going into rivers and streams that it > kills the fish (August, 2008, AWAKE Magazine, page 6). What will the > eco-nuts think about that? > > Bob Nicholson One of the problems with a fanatic is that you can never convince them of a position contrary to their own (see the Pennsy vs. NYC discussions). Otherwise, they wouldn't really be fanatics. If we wind up like France, the eco-nuts will start to label things that use energy as evil (right now, it's just "things that use lots of energy"). No electricity = No power plants = No killing fish. Then they'll want us all to live like we did in 1800 with no TV, no A/C, etc. The best solution for us is to start working on outdoor layouts for ethanol-fueled, S scale live steam...
