Bob, This interests me because I will have two grain elevators on my layout which tries to represent a part of Marshalltown, Iowa, on the old CGW with transfers to and from the C&NW and M&StL. One of them is the Kopel Grain Elevator, a wooden structure that looked very much like the one that American Model Builders or some outfit did in S. I have already built that one. Then I modified by raising it the Walther's concrete elevator. Your work, however, inspired me to do another Walther's outfit or to use bristol board to create one very similar to the Walther's metal-sheathed version according to plans printed in a very old "Model Railroading" magazine. The plans were printed in N/HO, but I have already enlarged the HO plans to S dimensions on the copier. Anyway, fun to see what someone else has done. Thanks for sharing. Tom

Tom, the white elevator is original as to the footprint--it is very prototypical for small rural elevators. The gray metal sheathed version is where I added a larger unloading area and an office area in front, but the main structure is again the same footprint. I have been thinking of building a larger terminal type elevator for our modules. These monsters were very evident when we last had the convention in Kansas City. Minneapolis seems to have torn most of theirs' down. There were very large ones devoted to rice here in Houston but most have been razed or turned into very odd storage units. PVC of thin walled variety would be a great starting point. The conveyor and headhouse could be corrugated metal or poured concrete. A covered loading facility would keep the structure simple and desirable for frequent moves. Way too many projects in this old head of mine!
