I have both sold and bought on ebay for a couple of years. We used to
favor personal checks but sometimes it took weeks to get them in house.
Then if we didn't know the individual we had to wait for clearance, thus
stuff sat here for weeks. I sold some photo equipment for a friend to a
fellow in Canada. The equipment was fairly heavy (way beyond normal
mail weight) and required two boxes. We used Fed Ex ground. There is a
fair amount of paperwork to fill out and one box made it just fine. The
larger, heavier bounced back here twice before we got 'mad'. In the end
Fed Ex wanted an extra $60 something dollars. I wonder how and if Pay
Pal would have delt with that situation.
We have since accepted the PayPal thing as a very good move as sometimes
the money is in the bank and the order is in the mail in a day or two.
Not a bad thing for the most part, but it does cut into the gross amount.
My personal peeve is sellers who mark the shipping up way above what it
costs. It's almost like a government deal!
