Since all of the various S guys using HO couplers have not reported any
problems, I am not sure why there should be any operational concern in
the first place. I've been using them on S cars -- both freight and
passenger -- for 35 years and have not had any particular problems at
all. Even pulled a 92-car train once up hills and around curves with a
mix of all different couplers -- mostly S (visitors), some HO (mine) --
without any problems. Who said there would be problems with a
correctly sized S scale coupler anyway? Frankly, I have more problems
with dirt on the wheels of visiting equipment than anything else.
Folks will wipe their shoes when entering the house, but for some
strange reason will not clean their wheels before placing equipment on
