Since injection molded parts and die cast parts are such a large part of our hobby, I have been looking for an on-line site that clearly shows some of the basics of these manufacturing methods. I found a good one for injection molding. http://www.custompartnet.com/wu/InjectionMolding
I have not found a similar site for diecasting, but look at the drawing of an injection mold http://www.custompartnet.com/wu/InjectionMolding#tooling I have worked with toolmakers who told me that diecast dies are VERY similar. Also in this section http://www.custompartnet.com/wu/InjectionMolding#process_cycle look at the large red drawing and note the difference between a sprue and a runner, and how they channel the supply of plastic (or metal) to the part.
