I've been catching up on the annual coupler debate.  On the subject of narrow 
gauge couplers, some railroads, including the most modeled D&RGW and RGS, used 
full size couplers.  However, the ones you currently see on cars are the older, 
smaller Type D which is slightly smaller than the Type E.  This is one reasons 
that the Kadee #5 family is the most commonly used in Sn3.  (Most PBL kits use 
the #26, which has a longer shank.)

Some railroads (EBT, the Maine 2-footers) used the 3/4 AAR size, which means 
that a HO "scale" coupler is almost perfect.

The above being said, I saw a few Sn3 models this week that had the Sergent HO 
couplers on them and I liked the appearance better the Kadee #5's.
