Subject: [S Scale Model Railroading] In Memorium: Peter T. Bellos

Peter T. Bellos, 75, long-time S scale modeler, passed away yesterday. Pete was
very active in S, particularly in the 1970s when he and Howard Scott had
Liberty Models, an entity that produced car parts from photo-etch process. At
the 1972 S Scale convention in Kansas City, he assembled what was labeled the
Ultimate Scratch-builder's Kit, a block of wood, a pair of trucks, and a pair
of couplers, and had a fun contest to see who could build the best car with
them. The winner was awarded two more of the kits.
Pete was sometimes known as a "rubber-gauger", as he worked in nearly every
scale from N to G during his life; his Wife Tedy had her own G scale layout and
rolling stock. After 1993, he built the Sn3 Rio Golare Railroad, it is very
close to what one would call completion as one of the best in this part of the
country.
He achieved the NMRA MMR award in 2006; but was well-known for his modeling
when I first came here for good in 1969. On the night of September 9th, he
hosted the local S scale group, about 7 of us; even before the night was over,
the medical events that lead to this announcement began.
The family requests donations to either Animal Haven, Merriam, Kansas; or
Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad, at www.cumbrestoltec.org.
