Folks....
Looks like a new manufacturer is jumping into the coupler fray. On page
eight there is an announcement from MTH (Mike's Train House) regarding their
new HO coupler that will be DCC operated.
I quote here: "...diesels will be prototypically accurate for each road
name and will include new couplers with knuckles that can be opened remotely
using Digital Command Control....each coupler contains three springs and a
mechanism that opens the locomotive coupler and the knuckle of the coupler
on any trailing car, allowing the locomotive and car to separate anywhere on
a layout. The MTH operating couplers are compatible with all brands of HO
knuckle couplers,.....MTH has applied for a patent for its coupler."
The big question, in my mind, is whether MTH is referring to NMRA/DCC or to
MTH's proprietary Digital Command System. Either way, this is an
interesting development in the coupler arena. Maybe the COUPLER KING should
contact MTH and ask them to make their new coupler (a) realistic, and (b)
about 36% oversize for better operation. Then we'd have the perfect S scale
coupler. Right?
Cheers...Ed L.
