Don Thompson approached me many years ago do photograph a bunch of
models for the Model Railroraders tribute to S's 50th anniversary. I
readied 3-4 of my steam engines for the photo series that was to be
taken on Rusty Paulus's layout. I thought I would try an experiment to
make smoke. There is a chemical mixture sold in our business typicaly
called "A & B smoke". You add a drop of A next to a drop of B and a
little wisp of smoke will result. Typically a cup of coffee or
something fresh from the oven is the intended use. I pried off the
boiler front of my 0-8-0 and put a couple of drops of each inside it.
Unfortunately due to the shape of the boiler the two chemical mixed and
did nothing but cause a corrisive spot in the brass and what little
smoke there was came out of the boiler front 'cause I couldn't get back
on correctly. So whomever eventually buys my engine will know "the rest
of the story!"
