Got'cher attention with that headline.....right? That's the latest idea for
promoting S scale to emanate from the somewhat nutzy brain of the guy
building the mighty NYC. Why not create an S-scale-only (no AF) catalog
similar in concept to the Walther's series of catalogs for HO, N, O, etc.
It would list virtually every product known to mankind that is more-or-less
in the proportion of 1:64. Lots of photos, descriptions, product reviews,
etc. No AF or Flyonel or K-Line or Plasticville or Marx or whatever. But
with oversize HO stuff that is useable (KD#5) as well as undersize O stuff
that is useable (Keil Line passenger car roof details). Maybe a coupler
dissertation courtesy of Dick Karnes and John Degnan (now there's a couple!)
and perhaps a rail size dissertation by Bill Lane and Don Thompson (whose
views are untainted by the fact he sells the stuff). This publication would
soon become the "Holy Bible of S Scale"......in effect. Printed in the USA
and sold at all hobby stores near you. Coordinated by ??? (need volunteer)
and financed by ??? (need "S"ugar Daddy) and priced to sell. I just got an
AM catalog for free and he claims the list price is $5. SHS sends me a free
catalog every year and I suppose there is a list price for those as well --
although I have no idea what it is. If the major manufacturers can promote
their products via free catalogs, why cannot S scale collectively promote
their products via a low-cost catalog. Would NASG undertake a project like
this? Would you?

Cheers....Ed L. (endless ideas for others to do)
